Regardless of whether or not your pregnancy is planned, each pregnancy occurs amidst a greater life context. Relationships, health, financial pressures, family and friends, career and work all impact on our adjustment to pregnancy and early parenthood. Our self-esteem, support network, personality and emotional wellbeing also affect our coping.
Sometimes, we need to explore, understand, problem solve and/or address our difficulties in order to maximise our readiness for parenthood. Unresolved major stresses in pregnancy are associated with reduced wellbeing for parents and baby postnatally. Parenthood - the first 12 months
As any experienced parent will tell you, the transition to parenthood is often a whirlwind of intense positive feelings sometimes accompanied by worrying, exhaustion, fear and confusion as you negotiate the rapid learning curve and change in lifestyle that a new baby brings. It is common to feel a little overwhelmed and anxious as you manage this significant adjustment period For some people, this intense time can also highlight relationship and emotional problems that are distressing.
